Being raised in a musical family, (dad was a retired music minister/pastor, mom is a singer and pianist, my brother and sister both can sing and play piano) I was destined to be in the music field. After becoming a member of the Texas Music Educators Association Allstate Choir my senior year, I realized I needed to pursue a music degree.  I decided to go to Baylor University and graduated with a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance. My love for teaching began while in a college vocal pedagogy (the teaching of voice) class.  From there, I taught private voice in many schools in the Austin area.

After my kids were in middle school and high school, I decided I wanted to teach in the classroom and have a broader scope of positive, musical influence. I obtained my alternative teaching certification and taught middle school choir in Seguin for three years. Those years taught me extreme perseverance and patience. From there I went to New Braunfels, teaching middle school choir at OakRun Middle School and New Braunfels Middle School. My last year with NBISD I also taught ninth graders at the newly formed Ninth Grade Center. I then went to Comal ISD and taught choir there for 8 years.

I am more than excited and eager to be teaching privately again one on one. It is my passion to grow the voices of adolescent students. My strength is the changing voice of young students. I can help bridge all of those "pot holes" the voice has during it's transition.

My husband, Chris and I met at Baylor and have been married for 31 years! We have two children, Meghan Barreras, married and living in Houston with her husband Andy, and the cutest granddaughter ever-Eleanor; and Jordan-very single and works at r. We also have three dogs: Rutter,  Ebony and we have the cutest Basset, Bessie.
